UK Champs Fills in Record Time - 11/03/2010

In a time where angling matches seem quite precarious and supposedly spectacular events whizz onto the radar then drop off again just as quickly, the historic UK Championships is going from strength to strength.

The 2010 event has filled up in record time with all of the 80 places booking up within the 28 day deadline for stage 1 entries. “It’s been amazing” announced 2010 organiser Nigel Harrhy.”I gave the lads that fished in the event last year first refusal on places for this year and almost all of them got back to me straight away. There were a few places left but they were snapped up very soon afterwards.”

The 2010 event is attracting some of the biggest names in match angling and reigning champion Tommy Pickering just pipped Darren Cox for the title in 2009. Both are back in again for round two of Clash of the Titans but it’s not just Tommy and Darren that are keen on lifting the trophy this year. Double Fish O’Mania winner Matt Hall had the following to say.“This is the first year that I have fished the UK Champs as it’s now one of the major events to win. It used to be a bit of mid week fun but these days it has become one of most credible angling events in the country. You’re rubbing shoulders with some of the best anglers in the land and it’s definitely one of the events that’s is at the top of my wish list to win at the moment.”

Event promoter Rob Hughes added “The lads are all buzzing about the event and they all agree it will be a tough test and is probably the best judge of who is the top angler in the country. The Champion will have to be consistently good over four different venues on four different days. It’s a real test which takes out virtually all of the luck element, and the winner will be a true and worthy champion”

The four round event kicks off in May at Essex venue Colemans Cottage with other rounds at Garbolino Lindholme, Maver Larford, and Barston and is the only multi venue competition in the country to be run to universal rules.

Entries are now full but to go on to the waiting list or to sign up for advanced info for the 2011 event log on to www.ukchampionship.co.uk
