Browning Quaker Spring Pairs Series 2008 - 05/05/2008
Now in in its fifth year this North East event is fished on the popular North Yorkshire venue, The Oaks Complex at Sessay. Fished over five matches on Poplar and Alders Lakes it attracts top anglers from the region, and with the added sponsorship prizes from tackle giants Browning, plus prize money paid to the top five pairs, it certainly makes this event a series worth winning.
This year's champions are Daiwa Cleveland stars James Dent and Ashley Clements with an impressive 70 points from a possible 80. Rules allow a substitute angler for one match per angler each, so the pair drafted in team mate Josh Newton who didn’t let his mates down for the second match. Josh filled in for James and duly won the match with 71lb 5oz from unfancied Peg 46 on Poplars. James returned for his place in the next match and won it with 69lb 5oz of ide on chopped worm and caster from Alders Peg 40. The trio managed between them to win two pairs matches and come second in another, thus lifting the title at their first attempt, winning £500 and a quality Browning match rod each.
Hot on their heels all the way through were Browning Quaker pair, Martin Robson and Lewis Mackintosh. The talented Browning duo managed one pairs win, and two seconds but a mediocre final match saw the pair fall away to slip to fourth overall. That opened the doors to Andy Geldart and Craig Kent who claimed second in the league while Les Bolton and Andy Simpson took third place. Andy also had the accolade as top points scorer over the series after dropping just three points from a possible 40.
