Shakespeare Superteam Distance Feeder Rod - 02/07/2009

A specialist tactic like distance feeder fishing cannot be undertaken without a specialist rod. The perfect rod needs to be powerful through the middle so that it can propel heavy feeders a long way, yet retaining a smooth playing action so that hooked fish aren’t lost when they’re being retrieved.

This dual-length Superteam Feeder rod sits nicely above the existing rods in the range to give you the opportunity to cast feeders further than 80 yards. The rod comes with two butt sections (so that you can set up either a 14ft or a 12ft rod), a middle section, a carrier section and four carbon tips rated from 1.5oz to 4oz. When fully assembled at its longest length the rod is certainly capable of casting heavy feeders as far as your technique will allow. Using bigger-spooled reels and shockleaders will certainly help you achieve a greater distance.

The Superteam Distance has an unbelievably powerful action so we think it’s suited to big fish with lines ranging from 0.16mm hooklengths upwards and hooks no smaller than size 14. When a fish has been hooked the rod takes on an impressive action that’s almost flawless, as it bends through to the butt section. The cork/duplon handle is longer than average (50cm), to give you extra leverage on the cast. We also felt this rod is ideal for fishing on rivers with feeder tactics when you’re after big fish in powerful currents. At its shorter, 12ft length this rod is still equally as good in action and would be suitable for casting feeders up to about 60 yards. The powerful action is retained so this would make a decent feeder rod on commercial fisheries where the carp average above 8lb.

All in all this dual-length feeder rod is perfect for the job it’s designed to do. It will help add distance to your casts while still giving you the option of using a shorter rod at venues where you don’t have to cast to the horizon. For the money, it’s one of the best around.

MF Verdict:
This is the perfect long-distance feeder rod, with the added bonus of a shorter option when needed.
