LONG TERM TEST: Sensas Pierotti Hook Tyer - 26/03/2009

This rather peculiar item of tackle has been invaluable to me over the years. It enables me to tie hooklengths to the exact same size every time. We all know the value of having plenty of hooks tied up to different diameters, but it can be quite a chore to sit down and tie a few of each variation, especially considering how many different styles of hooklength you could use.

However, apart from you manually having to tie a loop this device does all the rest, with you just wrapping the line around a couple of areas and rotating the handle. The knot it produces is perfectly formed and looks just like a normal spade-end knot. The device clamps onto a work surface or table that keeps it steady in use. The Pierotti excels in all departments but especially in the sizing of your hooklength. Initially it takes a bit of trial and error to get the length correct, but once I got it right I marked the metal stem so that I can achieve the same size hooklength every time. The shortest hooklength you can tie is about 12 centimetres, and the longest is ?? centimetres. This covers all of my pole fishing hooklengths and some of my running-line ones too. The beauty of the Pierotti is that I can tie about 30 to 40 hooklengths in an hour when I’m going for it, and I can also talk on the phone to my mates about fishing while I’m doing so!

It may be considered slightly expensive at around £30, but in the long run it helps me to be more prepared and hopefully this leads to more fish in my net.
