When it comes to consistency, there can’t be many anglers who are more in form than Daiwa and Guru ace Steve Ringer. After winning the individual aggrergate in last years popular teams of four league at Tunnel Barn Farm, Steve has enjoyed a steaming start to this years winter campaign – backed up by back to back wins at the venue this weekend.
He explained: “I have really enjoyed my last couple of winters at Tunnel – as in order to do any good, you have had to keep going and ensure that you are really in touch with what is happening.
On Saturday’s match, I drew peg 27 on Extension pool, and really had to ring the changes in order to catch. I enjoyed a good intital run dobbing around with bread, before catching a few fish on pellets.
My best run came late on in the match though, when I switched to a maggot line on a top six of my pole. I caught a few fish on the bottom, before having a good run up in the water once the F1s started competing for my feed. I ended up with 72lb 6oz, which was good enough for a win, with 54lb coming second.
The following day, I drew peg 21, and had a far easier match- catching off two maggot lines, one on a short pole at six metres and another at 13 metres. The key to doing this was in my bait choice- I fished maggots, which meant I was able to catch from just these two areas. This is rarely possible with any other bait in winter, as the fish just seem to back off, meaning you have to chase them around a lot more. I ended the match with 83lb 4oz for a second consecutive win. I just hope that my good luck carries on through the rest of the winter!”
