Wayne Mellings is the 2011 Midland Angler Of The Year after posting a perfect two-point scorecard at Barston Lakes.
The competition saw 40 top anglers fishing two matches on the same peg – three hours on the feeder, then three hours on the pole – and despite the Maver Midlands captain drawing unfancied Peg 105 on the roadside bank he still managed to win his section both times.
In second place was Richie Hull on three points. The Garbolino-backed angler and former Midland Angler Of The Year posted the highest combined weight of the competition with 66lb off fancied Peg 52. He was looking good for a perfect two-point score before fishery manager Nigel Harrhy on end Peg 57 pipped him for the crucial point with a 10lb carp on the whistle.
