Anglers show their generosity after tackle theft wipes out two competitors.
Two anglers who had all their tackle stolen have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity of others after donations and money was given to get them back on the bank.
Steve Knowles and Nigel Banks had been fishing a match at Partridge Lakes in Cheshire when thieves broken into their vans after the competition taking all of their tackle. But thanks to an amazing response from manufacturers and other anglers after the efforts of Dynamite Baits-backed rod Gareth Drury they’re now fishing again.
“I was with the guys when they had their vans broken into after the match, in fact we were only standing 25yards away when it happened but there were trees in the way and the thieves were very quick,” said Gareth. “They took everything, even the guys’ old wellies, we watched the CCTV tape afterwards and it took them less than five minutes to empty both vans. “Steve’s a good friend of mine and he was devastated by it, telling me he was finished in match fishing because he couldn’t replace what was stolen.”
Not taking it lying down, first thing on the Monday morning Gareth got on the phone, and within four hours of ringing around had secured enough tackle and bait to get both guys up and running again.
On top of this a charity match and raffle was organized at Partridge raising £850 for the pair, a sum that’s seen Steve and Nigel now competing again.
“Everyone was so generous,” continued Gareth, ”and I’d just like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in donating tackle and bait and who came along to support the charity match.”
