Bagging venue sees one of closest weigh-ins ever during weekend open.
One of the closest weigh-ins ever seen at top bagging fishery Alders Farm was witnessed at the weekend, with the top four anglers separated by just a single pound – three of them chalking up exactly the same weight.
A total of 658lb of fish were caught by the top quartet of anglers at the Buckinghamshire venue’s latest Saturday open, the winner being Gary Thorpe who posted 165lb 8oz on the board to take the top spot.
Close behind and inseparable on weight were Rob Lett, Alan Wayman and Martin green, all just a pound off the pace with 164lb 8oz each after fishing the match on Alder’s Ash Pool.
All of the anglers amassed their weight using fishery micropellets, with Gary fishing 6mm expanders on the pole from peg 1 for victory.
“It was one of the closest weigh-ins we’ve ever seen here,” said match organiser Trevor Price. “The guys were fishing almost identical tactics and any one of them could have won it, just one fish could have changed the result which is a great thing to see in a match as it makes things pretty exciting.”
Amazingly, even though we are only just into spring the 165lb winning weight isn’t the heaviest haul the fishery has seen this year. A 200lb net was weighed in during one of the venue’s opens back in January.
