Youngest angler in new Maver squad impresses with back-to-back wins.
Last month Match Fishing reported that the newly formed Maver Gold team had signed it’s youngest member with schoolboy angler Mitch Davidson.
At just 16-year-old drafting Mitch Davidson into the team might have seemed like a risk for captain Gary Plant, but it’s a risk that’s more than paid off. Fishing Bridgenorth’s Preston Boldings Pools, this weekend Mitch took back-to-back victories after dominating the Saturday and Sunday open matches.
The only angler to top the ton on either day, Mitch posted a total of 112lb 2oz in the first competition on the venue’s Chestnut Pool. After drawing flyer peg 23 the teenager made the most of it, fishing the pole between 13 and 14metres with pellet to an island taking mainly F1s and carp to 7lb. Second placed Andrew Danks weighed in 95lb after fishing similar tactics from peg 30.
On the Sunday Mitch again found luck in the drawbag, pulling out peg 23 for a second time. This time though the Maver Gold man changed his approach, targeting a line closer in as well as on the island to amass a net of carp and barbel to weigh-in 108lb. It was enough to give him his second top spot of the weekend ahead of second placed angler Colin Reynolds of Bilston Angling Centre who weighed 64lb 12oz.
