Maver Midlands man takes Larford victory to secure grand final spot.
Stuart Ballard has become the seventh man to take a place at Cudmore Fishery for the 2012 Fish ‘O’ Mania grand final.
A previous Fish ‘O’ final veteran, Maver Midlands man Stuart fished the event on a reserve ticket after anglers dropped out of the qualifier held at Larford Lakes, putting his knowledge of the venue to good use to win by an impressive 15kg over second place.
Having drawn on the complex’s Specimen Lake, Stuart fished from peg 13. Working two lines – one at 6meters, the other at 12 – Stuart rotated his swims using the method and pole with either meat or corn on the hook.
It was an approach that more than paid off, with the Maver man weighing in an all-carp bag topped by a lump of 22lb 8oz for 58.2kg - enough to beat the 125 strong field.
In second place was fellow Maver Midland team mate Les Thompson who weighed in 43.08kg from peg 6 on the venue’s Match Lake. Taking third place was Peter Shryan fishing on Arena Lake's peg 38 with a weight of 38.91kg of mainly Carp and a few skimmers. Fourth was Garbolino’s Darren Cox, the former Fish ‘O’ Mania finalist fishing on the Match Lake from peg 17 to weigh in 38.4kg of carp and F1s.
