Monks Lakes delivers eighth competitor for prestigious grand final.
Preston Innovations’ Geoff Vallance has become the eighth angler to book his place in the highly anticipated Fish ‘O’ Mania final 2012.
Fishing in the qualifier at Kent’s Monks Lake, the Crawley-based angler drew on the venue’s Lake Four, weighing in a match winning total of 172lb 8oz from peg 143.
It was enough to beat his closest rival by 20lb and beat a field of 129 competitors for the coveted spot in the final.
Vallance’s winning tactics saw him fish two lines, one of the margin of an island at 16meters and another at 5meters, with a method feeder rod setup to fish over the 16meter pole line. Three skimmers were the first to come to the net from the 5meter line before a move to 16meters saw a string of small carp caught on meat. After a while liners and false bites became a problem forcing another change to a shallow rig and banded pellet in the same swim, which once again put Geoff on the fish. In all around 100 fish fell to Geoff’s approach, combining for a qualifier winning results.
Weighing in in second place on the day was Danny Grimsby who fished from Lake Three’s peg 112 for a total 152lb 10oz of carp and barbell taken on meat on long and short pole.
