Second Match This qualifier of weekend see another Garbolino man into the final.
The second Maver Match This qualifier held over the weekend saw another Garbolino-backed rod make it through to the big money event.
Andy Geldart showed his quality taking on a 62man lineup to join his counterpart Jason Le Bosquet in the high-profile final with a match winning bag of 141lb 1oz – 30lb over second place.
Held at Thirsk’s Woodland Lakes, Andy drew peg 12 on Partridge, fishing the method to take carp up to 9lb to amass his winning net.
Lee Kerry was fishing his second Match This qualifier of the weekend at the venue, and although he managed a better result than the first match’s fourth place, he still missed out on the top spot, landing second with 111lb 5oz from peg 23 on Skylark. His placing did mean that he qualified for the 2012 Maver British Pole Champs for a third time, this time his place going by default to Greg Norris who finished fourth as third placed Jamie Hughes had also already qualified for the event. Maver-backed Jamie’s third place in the qualifier came from peg 8 on Wagtail. A mix of pole and the method saw him weigh in a total of 105lb 6oz.
Greg Norris finished fourth on the day after drawing peg 3 on Curlew Lake. Greg opted to fish paste in the margins for the duration of the match to take some quality fish, but could not catch quick enough, finishing the match with 89-01-00.
Paul Fletcher's 86-12-00 from peg 14 on Curlew for fifth place was enough to see him through to this year's Maver British Pole Championships. Paul started the match fishing pole and pellet at 6m and 13m before switching to sweetcorn in the margins for the final two hours to take quality carp up to 12lbs.
