Tough match sees latest angler go through to next month's big money final.
Difficult conditions at Shropshire’s Preston Innovations Boldings Pools tested many anglers in the latest Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier match.
Spawning followed by several days of heavy rain made the fishing hard, but in the end it was Maver Midlands’ Mark Johnson who finally booked his place in the arena next month. Beating a field of quality anglers from peg 7 on Beech, Mark’s final weight pulled the scales around to 113lb 12oz – the only weigh of the day over the ton – after the Shirley-based angler fished pellet shallow for small carp and F1s before coming short to take better fish to 10lb.
Garbolino’s Grant Albutt took the second spot on the day. Fishing from peg 20 on Beech Grant caught shallow on caster to take F1s and silvers for a total of 86lb 2oz.
In third was Kieron Rich with 75lb 4 ozs of carp, F1s and silvers taken on the deck with maggot from peg 17 on Chestnut Pool.
Fourth was Yorkshireman, Lee Barratt from Hawthorn peg 5. Lee weighed a mixed bag of carp and F1s totaling 62lbs 3oz taken on pellet over at the island.
Fifth spot was taken by Richard Buxton with 60lb 3oz, which included a beautiful common carp of 13 lbs taken with his last put in of the match.
