Navy man takes individual honours but it's the Army that take the win.
The 2012 Inter Services Championship has been won by Maver’s Royal Navy angler Paul Jackson.
Fished at Yorkshire’s The Oaks Lakes near Thirsk, the hotly contested event seas the three areas of the armed forced competed, with Maver Royal Navy, Garbolino RAF and Vespe Army go head-to-head across three of the venue’s waters.
The target for all the anglers was the fishery’s smaller carp and F1s, but weather conditions made things tough going.
Victorious Paul drew peg 2 on Poplar Lake on the day, feeding micros with meat on the pole at 14m with 6mm meat cubes on the hook for a start, while feeding meat down the edge.
After a number of F1s a change of tactics saw Paul fishing a small pellet feeder with micros and 6mm banded pellet hookbait. A move that saw him catch steadily until the end of the match for a total weight of 27.230kg.
“To say I was overjoyed to win this event is an understatement", said Paul.
Team wise it was the Army who romped to the top spot, Vespe Army winning twelve of sections on the day. A strong performance from Maver Royal Navy saw them push Garbolino RAF back to third.
