This month, Joe Carass runs the rule over a rod range set to take the market by storm!During my time at Match Fishing I have been privy to most of the new gear available and have certainly looked at my fair share of rods this year alone. This range from MAP, however, has caught my eye and I have seen them going through the testing stages for over a year now, having watched MAP-sponsored anglers Andy May and James Dent putting the various prototypes through their paces on magazine features. Having seen the rods in the different stages of development I couldn’t wait to give the finished articles a bash, but more of that later. Parabolix is a name that has long been associated with quality so there was definitely some pressure on MAP to produce the goods with these and it looks to have succeeded! There are nine rods in the range, varying from an 8ft F1 bomb rod to 13ft waggler rods, so there really is a rod to suit everyone here.

EDAA vs Taunton Interclub match report EDAA vs Taunton Association Interclub| 18/03/12 Number of pegs/anglers: 25 Report: Ten anglers from Taunton Angling Association travelled down for the return fixture hosted by Exeter at their Kia Ora fishery in Cullompton. With 25 fishing in total the match had to be split with 8 on the silver and 17 on the gold pond. The club had recently stocked 700 small carp into the silver lake so it was hoped this could provide a reasonable days fishing for everyone. There had been a hard overnight frost in Cullompton overnight and on the day the weather was changeable with some blustery wind and cold showers.

Like many of you I love a gadget, fishing related or otherwise. I’ve been fishing for many, many years and have lost count of the number of reels I’ve filled with line or braid in my time as an angler! It was while looking in a tackle shop I saw a Daiwa Sensor Line Loader sitting on the shelf. I’ve managed without one until now I thought to myself…so left it where it was. You’ve probably done as I have; tie a knot to a fresh reel spool, then proceed to wind the new material on while allowing the spool to skip all over the front room entangling itself around almost everything - including family and friends!Like many I have also poked a Biro pen through the central hole in the spool and asked an accomplice to tension the line by bracing a finger against the spool.

Angling Trust Southern Semi Practice match report Kennet and Avon Canal at Great Bedwyn | 18/03/12 Number of pegs/anglers: 9 Report: 90 Anglers fished the 2nd and Final Angling Trust Southern Semi final practice match on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Great Bedwyn. With milder temperatures in the proceeding week this fish were in a feeding mood and they were treated to a fine match with 15 double figure weights and the top 4 all weighing more than 20lb! Skimmers and Big perch made up all the top weights, but the top 8 anglers were all on end pegs! Coming out on top was Daiwa Dorking’s Welsh International Lee Edwards, who was on peg C10 on the beeches stretch, Lee had a steady first three hours and was admitting to 4lb. But with 2 hours to go the skimmers moved into his peg and he put together another 35lb in that time on Red maggot, caster and worm hookbaits. To total a splendid 39lb 5oz.
