Eric Humphries steps down as manager.
The manager of the Welsh International team, Eric Humphries has resigned from his post with immediate effect. The moves comes following a meeting between the Welsh Federation Of Anglers, that took place last week, in which Eric received a vote of no confidence.

He told Angling News Week: “I am obviously very disappointed to have to stand down, as I loved working with the team – but in many ways it may be a blessing in disguise. I have had a few health problems over the last couple of years, and the stress and pressure that comes with managing a big team certainly hasn’t helped.

I have had a brilliant 17 years managing Wales, and although we have only won one international medal in that time, I am very proud of what we have achieved. I just feel a little sorry for some of the new anglers that I planned on giving a place in the team this year, who now won’t get a chance to fish.

I was obviously gutted to receive a vote of no confidence, and  although the Welsh team asked me to stay on until the end of the year, I felt that the position was now untenable – so handed in my notice with immediate effect.

I am trying to take the news as positive, and celebrate the good times – so I would like to extend my thanks to all those who have helped me. Those include former England Manager, Dick Clegg, who was a big help and inspiration to me in the early years. We would have been unable to fish as many events had it not been for the generous backing of Shimano, and the Welsh Sports Council. The final group of people that I would like to thank would be the media – as they have also been very kind to us in the past, in helping us to promote our sponsors.

Although my rein has ended in terms of the Welsh national team, I still plan on keeping my role in international body Cips/Fips – for the immediate future at any rate.”
