Joe Carass gets his hands on the new flagship Xitan pole from Browning – the Z16L. Browning’s Xitan Z12 was a watershed moment for the company, in my opinion. Of course Browning has an illustrious history when it comes to making incredible poles, but the Z12 was a game-changer for the modern era. The pole made the whole trade stand up and take notice.

Joe Carass gets his hands on the World Champion Feeder Rods designed by Browning’s Jens Koschnick. I was certainly intrigued when the Jens Koschnick rods were announced late last year. Jens is a formidable angler on the Feeder World Championship scene and does well right across Europe, including a World Pairs victory in Ireland. His credentials are certainly there so Browning decided to team up with him to produce a rod that he wanted.

Joe Carass checks out the new cane-bristled patterns from Malman Floats. In this era of hollow bristles, it makes a refreshing change to see float makers using cane as a bristle material. I am a huge fan of cane-bristled floats and if more of my favourite patterns had cane bristles then I would use them all of the time. I was really excited when I saw Malman Floats release three new patterns that featured cane bristles and just had to buy some to give them a try.

Match Fishing takes a look at a crucial item of tackle that makes keepnet management a doddle. Net management is a critical part of commercial match fishing now that strict net limits are in place on most commercial fisheries. Being able to position three or more keepnets is a common issue, along with having the space to correctly position those nets. The Seatbox Tool Bar from Frenzee is an effective way to position up to five of the company’s FXT Euro Nets in a nice compact way.

Joe Carass gets an exclusive look at the brilliant new Super Feeder mix from Sonubaits. Sonubaits produces some of the finest groundbaits about. You only need to look at what anglers such as Des Shipp, Lee Kerry, Michael Buchwalder and Andy Power are using to see how good the bait is. One thing Sonubaits is really good at is reacting to trends and producing what anglers need.

Joe Carass reveals the latest elastic development from Matrix that he believes will revolutionise pole fishing. Without a doubt hollow elastics have become the most popular elastic choice for anglers across the UK. Their versatility and durability are essential for anglers who fish loads of different venues, and the fact is that fish loss is kept to a minimum thanks to the extra stretch. But it is fair to say that although we do have some fabulous puller devices now and elastic connectors have also moved on, there hasn’t really been any development in terms of elastic for a number of years.

Joe Carass gets his hands on the stunning new Cast’izm rod range from Daiwa. The Cast’izm name has become synonymous with anglers who require tackle that is capable of just a little bit more. The Cast’izm reels, despite their price tag, have become a must-have for any angler looking to cast a long way. Walk around any feeder match and you are likely to see a load of them in use.

Joe Carass checks out the Centris NT reels, a new era in reel design from Preston Innovations. Preston Innovations has really kicked on recently with some terrific tackle releases that are becoming must-haves for any angler. It has been at the very forefront of the feeder revolution and that association with feeder fishing only looks to be growing stronger. The one thing missing was a really good range of reels; cue the development of the Centris NT range.

The Best Yet? Is the Daiwa TDX the best reel ever made? Joe Carass thinks it might just be! I didn’t know what to expect when I received the new TDX to test. The previous black model was a huge hit and I have used the cheaper TDR models in my fishing for the best part of a decade. However, other than the recent TDR, I haven’t used one of the latest Daiwa reels. Firstly, let’s take a look at the TDX and the technology involved.

Joe Carass checks out a new feeder range that is finding its way into many feeder anglers’ collections in recent months! We are well and truly moving toward an era of feeder fishing, and just like with pole fishing, niche feeder manufacturers are cropping up all over the place. Having fished Ferry Meadows regularly earlier in the year I was looking for various feeders to have in my locker. Rob Wootton had some rather nifty looking models in his feeder collection and I just had to find out more (not that Rob wanted me to know what they were!). Luckily I had a feature planned with Simon Willsmore and it just so happened that he had started to distribute the feeders throughout the UK.

Claimed by Middy to be the world’s first ever chair designed for both pole and feeder fishing, the MX-100 fills an important niche in the whole seatbox/fishing chair market. If you’re an angler for whom a seatbox is an unnecessary extravagance, you don’t want to have to settle for an unsuitable carp angler’s chair or, even worse, a garden seat. Neither option is particularly comfortable to fish from, especially if they have arms, and nor are they much suited to the demands of fishing the pole or feeder. Enter the Middy MX-100 Pole/Feeder Recliner Chair.
