Abc Mi7 Bait Range

Joe Carass gets his hands on ABC’s latest hit bait range, the formidable MI7.

I am always interested when new bait ranges are released. Most are well publicised through various social-media platforms these days and you generally know when something is about to hit the shop shelves.

One new launch that snuck under my radar, though, was ABC’s MI7 range of baits. In fact, it wasn’t until I shot the feature with Lee Edwards in this issue that I was aware of its existence.

But what exactly is it? Well, MI7 is a high-protein range of baits aimed at barbel and carp. It is a bait for anglers targeting big fish and has already proven to be a huge hit with barbel anglers.

When I first saw the baits I thought: “Here we go, another halibut range!” but as soon as I opened the bait I knew this was something different, something new. The aroma this stuff emits is quite incredible and, to be honest, I can’t put my finger on what it smells like.

The success of this bait is all down to the secret MI7 formula. ABC wouldn’t tell me the exact ingredients, for obvious reasons, but I do know that there are fish oils, black pepper oil and garlic oil. These certainly give the bait a kick and it really is a unique scent, and one that you just know is going to be effective.

The groundbait is really nice – a dark, rich mix that stinks! It is fairly coarse but not ridiculously so. At the end of the day, this groundbait is aimed at big fish, so you would expect the odd particle to be present. It mixes up very nicely and is inherently sticky, making it ideal for feeder work on powerful rivers as it ensures that your feeder will get to the bottom intact.

There are also pellets in the range, and these are halibut pellets that have been steeped in that all-important MI7 attractor. They are available in 3mm and 4mm so will make the ideal particle for using through a feeder (just like Lee Edwards does in his feature on the Wye).

Hook pellets also feature in the range, and can be bought in 6mm, 8mm drilled, 10mm and a mixed ‘multiblend’ pot. These are superb quality hookers with generous sized pots. They are also supplied with free bait bands.

To further boost your hook pellets, the MI7 range also contains a ready mixed paste. This is a firm offering that is ideal for moulding around a pellet. I know from personal experience how effective this setup can be for barbel, but I also know that on venues such as Stafford Moor, this ‘conker’ hook bait can be deadly.

Finally we have the MI7 Liquid Protein. ABC has always been associated with producing quality liquid attractants. Its Detonator and XXX liquids are firm favourites with commercial anglers so I was expecting something good. The MI7 is a thick, strong-smelling liquid that is ideal for adding to baits. It will boost any bait that you add it to but it can also be fed neat via a pole pot. It is quite concentrated, though, so a little will go an awfully long way!

All in all I am very impressed with what the MI7 range has to offer. I have seen first-hand just how good the bait is and it’s nice to see ABC producing something that offers the angler something different. Be warned, though, your missus might not like it...
