Daiwa Match Winner Pole
If you’re thinking about shelling out for a pole around the £1,000 mark, don’t do anything until you’ve read this! Alex Bones takes the new Daiwa Match Winner for a whirl.
Having heard rave reviews about this pole in the run-up to its launch I was already expecting good things. A trip to Warwickshire’s Makins Fishery saw me on Reptile Pool where an island at full length, 14.4 metres, and a fishy-looking margin were to be the prime target areas for a no-holds-barred test session.
Shipping out to the far bank with a 4x14 KC Carpa Chimp shotted with a bulk of No8s on 0.15mm line straight through, it wasn't long before the groundbait-and-corn combo had the fish queuing up in the swim! Tapping a small pole-mounted potful of corn and groundbait every couple of minutes kept them keen and the margins were primed with the same.
But there was one challenger that threatened to ruin the day – a horrendous wind blowing straight across the pole! I have to say, though, that it handled the conditions well and was very fishable, even at full length, so I was able to plunder the carp and tench with confidence.
Daiwa’s Diamond Satin finish is simply superb to ship in and out, and with some rain along the way I really was getting to test the Match Winner in almost every conceivable weather scenario. For the money it’s a superb tool and one I’d challenge anyone to be disappointed with.
Although this is a fantastic pole in its own right, Daiwa devotees will be pleased to learn that it’s made on the same mandrel as all other UK Daiwa poles. That means it’s compatible with the Air, Airity, Tournament ProX, Tournament Pro, Whisker and Connoisseur G20. So, if you're after a spare, interchangeable pole, or one for power applications then here it is!
For the RRP of £1,500 (promo £999) you get 14.4 metres of pole (match kit supplied in the pole) along with four spare Interlastic power kits.
With side-style puller kits becoming all the rage Daiwa has incorporated four of its Interlastic side-puller top kits into the spares package. It’ll handle elastics up to a grade 20 and will be a match for many of the brutes that inhabit today’s commercial waters, as well as a pole capable of finesse work with the match kits in place.
