Gaylard Does The Double

Daiwa Gordon League ace qualifies for two big money finals in as many days.
Daiwa Gordon League rod, Mark Gaylard has had a weekend to remember, after qualifying for both the Shakespeare and Wychavon Championship finals on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham.  As well as earning a place in the two August Bank Holiday finals – which could see Mark win up to £9,000 in prize money – he banked almost £400 in winnings over the two days, making for a very profitable weekend.

Mark’s good run of fortune started on Saturday’s Wychavon Championship qualifier, when he drew the end peg at the top end of the match length. Alternating between a running through rig on a short pole line, and a flat float on a long pole,
Mark managed 7lb exactly of chunky perch – which proved enough to win the 70 peg match!

On Sunday, the going was a lot tougher –and after a few early perch, Mark got his head down and targeted the rivers bleak population. Fishing up in the water with maggots and pinkies, Mark kept busy for the rest of the match, constantly adding small fish to his net. At the end of the competition, Mark recorded 5-3-8, which was enough for third on the day, and earned him a place in the Shakespeare Championship Final – which carries a top prize of £6,000!
