Former Mega Match This finalist and new Maver man on the block, Ben Sharp, has qualified for next year’s Middy Extreme Final from his latest outing at Lake View in Leicestershire. Read his full match report below: “Today I’ve had a nice local trip to Lake View Fishery to try and qualify for the middy extreme winter series final. And to have my first outing with my new Maver Darkside 3 pole” “Peg 21 on Serpent pool was to be my home for the day and I must say I really didn’t fancy the peg at all! It was evident from the off that peg 2 was solid with fish and was likely to win, on the plus side of that…. Andy Searl who had drawn peg 2 had already qualified”.

Unbelievable Value! Tom Scholey gets on the bank with the Maver Oculus 999, a pole he believes sets a new standard in mid-range pole performance. To say that I was extremely impressed with this pole would be the king of all understatements. Value for money-wise, it is among the very best I have tested. Why? Because it is probably the only pole that I have tested in its price point that performs exceptionally well at its full length.

The latest government statistics show that angling participation has increased over the last 12 months as anglers head out to the banks more often. The Active People Survey is carried out by Sport England to establish how many people are participating in sport. The survey, looks at all sports, including angling, as part of the government drive to keep people engaged in sporting activity. 164,500 anglers were canvassed as part of the regular study to find out how often people go fishing and what is their background.

Today I have been on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal in Thorne with members of the Facebook group Angling Info. I was asked by the admin team if I would do something slightly different for the guys rather than just a meetup and fish; I was asked to do a coaching session on the use of Bloodworm & Joker and for me, the Stainy is the only place to go to show it’s potential. An event on their page was created and people started booking on, on the day there were less than anticipated but to be honest that was always going to be the case due to cold weather overnight and the fact some are just unsure about using the bait as it’s unknown to many. I always look forward to fishing on here regardless of the time of year I wish I could justify fishing the winter leagues but having to work shifts limits the amount of matches I can fish.
