Joe Carass reports on a product from Frenzee that he had written off as a gimmick. I have to be honest and say that when I first saw anglers using roller-type puller kits, I thought they were a bit of a gimmick. After all, I have used side pullers for a long time now and have never really had any major problems with them, so have never seen the need to change. A few months ago, though, I was out with Frenzee’s Andy Neal and he showed me the Eeze Glyde system in action.

Jon Arthur is no stranger to big events, so we got him to pick seven of the best and explain what it takes to fish them. I have had a few people messaging me recently about ‘taking the next step’ and getting into the big-match circuit. I think that’s great as, for me, half the fun of match fishing is constantly learning about new methods and venues, trying to up your game and better yourself. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut fishing the same venues week in, week out.

Does the groundbait you choose really make that much difference? In the forthcoming February issue of Match Fishing we pit two top anglers, Warren Martin and Daniel Brydon, against each other. The purpose of the exercise is to find out whether a dedicated tailor-made groundbait concoction is superior to a one-bag ready-to-use mix. The outcome is very interesting and should have you thinking more closely about the mixes you use. Pick up the February issue of Match Fishing for the inside information – on sale Friday, January 30th.

Pollution kills thousands of canal fish in the Leicester area. The Grand Union Canal near Fleckney, in Leicestershire, has had its fish stocks decimated by a shocking pollution incident. Caused by farm slurry, ammonia levels reached critical levels with an estimated 2000 fish dying as a result. Match Fishing regular Rob Wootton has fished this area of the canal all of his life and was understandably upset by the disaster.
