England Juniors lead World Youth Championship.
The England under-18 team have taken a commanding position on the first day of the Junior World Championship, taking three section wins and a second.

As it stands, they are nine points ahead of second-placed France, with one day of the competition still to go. 
Section winners include Sam Hughes, Bradley Gibbons and Joe Kent, with Matt Barnett second in his section – finishing just a few grams short of victory.

Manager Steve Sanders was delighted with the day's result: “We came here looking for a medal, and we enter the second day with a great chance of getting one. All of the lads fished brilliantly, with Matt being very unlucky to finish second, as the French lad in his section caught a giant mullet. 

"It seems that the English weather has followed us over here, as we had a thunderstorm this morning and it has rained all day. Still, the lessons we learnt in practice have proved very valuable – I just hope we can keep up the good work tomorrow.”

The England Intermediate team also faired well, scoring 25 points. This was made up of a third in section for Hereford's Rory Jones, a sixth for Matt Derry, and an eighth for Matt Godfrey and James Dent. 

It is thought that this leaves them in fourth place behind Germany on 16 points, Hungary on 18 points and France on 21 points.

Pole Fishing Magazine's editorial assistant, Matt Godfrey, was pleased with the day's result. He commented: "We are still very much in the race, and with us only being nine points behind the leaders we really do have everything to play for tomorrow. A thunderstorm before the start of the match lead to us changing our tactics slightly, but we have all done well, and learnt lessons that will stand us in good stead for tomorrow." 

Neither the junior nor intermediate team is expected to change any of its anglers for the second day.
