Report:An Inch of cold overnight rain, plus more of the same mixed with snow during the match meant the weights were down from what would be normally expected for the first Angling Trust southern semi final practice match on the Kennet and Avon canal in and around the Wiltshire village of Great Bedwyn.
There were still two double figure weights and both were taken by Drennan Banbury Gunsmith Anglers and travelling partners Matt Herbert and Carl Elland who collected £210 and £170 for there efforts, so were thinking about hiring a securicor Van to get all their winnings home!
Matt was pegged half way down the straight on the Potters section and included 6 big perch in his net of 12lb, including a whopper of 3lb 6oz! Caught on pole and worm tactics.
Carl had a similarly large 3lb+ perch, plus skimmers and roach for 11lb 1oz from left of the bay in the section above the roadside.
In third place with 8lb 14oz, from the first peg on the roadside was Browning Wickford’s Steve Joy.
Steve caught roach a couple of skimmers and 3 big perch on the worm.
In forth place was Drennan Banbury Gunsmith’s Gary Barclay, pegged 2 away from Carl, Gary’s net included lots of small roach plus 2 big perch.
There was a tie for 5th place between Tubertini South’s Dominic Allen and Drennan Banbury Gunsmith’s Mick Denton both with Perch dominated weights of 7lb 12oz.
