Barby Baggers

Barby Banks Evening Match, near Rugby, Warwickshire. Wednesday 18th July.

Despite the big rumbles of thunder, the anglers fishing the latest midweek evening contest at Barby Banks finally had a rain-free contest! With sunny, humid conditions the smaller carp went on a feeding frenzy with some impressive weights in less than three hours fishing.

Leading the frame was Pole Fishing magazine's Jon Arthur who had more than 40 small carp plus a couple of bonuses to 8lb in his 111lb 13oz bag. He used a mixture of groundbait, dead maggots, meat and cat meat and targeted the shallowest water across and down the edge.

Match Fishing magazine's Joe Carass went for a pellet and paste approach to the far bank for 25 carp, which gave him 88lb 9oz and second spot. Tom Scholey has consistently come third in every single evening match at Barby to date and this week was no different! His chopped-worm-tempted bag totaled 73lb 11oz.

The matches are on every Wednesday evening and cost just £12 to enter. Draw at 5.30pm in the Marshes car park with fishing from 6.15pm to 9pm. To book on, ring Tom Scholey on 07971 620489.
