Callum Dicks came out on top in the inaugural Hobgoblin Individual Championship. This is how he did it…

England International, and Maver backed star Callum Dicks has won the inaugural Hobgoblin Individual Championship on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham, with a 10-12-0 net of perch.

He told Match Fishing: “An end peg is often an advantage in this kind of match, so I was really pleased to draw Peg 73, which was the downstream end of the match length. On inspection it soon became clear that most of the flow here is over the far side of the river, so I felt fishing 14.5 metres would give me the best chance of catching.

“The plan was to start on the short pole for perch, before moving out on to a longer pole line later in the day, and hopefully fill any blank spells in between with bleak. Things have gone largely to plan to be honest, and I have managed quite a lot of dumpy perch early in the day, and the bleak line has proved fairly productive too!

“I also managed a couple of small skimmers from my long line, along with some better perch that were obviously sat out in the flow. Evesham has always been a bit of a nemesis venue for me – so I am made up with the result.”

Result:

1 Callum Dicks (Maver) 10-12-0 (Peg 73)

2 Rob Wootton (Shimano/Dynamite) 8-6-0 (Peg 35)

3 Alan Scotthorne (Drennan/Sensas) 7-12-0 (Peg 50)

4 Matt Derry (Sensas) 7-0-0 (Peg 2)

5 Bill Blowing (Gloucester) 6-10-0 (Peg 1)
