130 competitors gathered at the picturesque Hayfield Lakes, Doncaster on Saturday 12th March 2016 for the third Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier on a cool misty morning. The fishery had recovered well after the recent heavy rains and although there was a cool south easterly breeze blowing the weather looked set fair. Recent 200 lb weights on this venue added to the expectation of a good days fishing. As the match got under way, reality soon dawned that that the cool wind and was having an effect, with most anglers struggling for early bites in the conditions.

Entries are now being accepted from invited anglers who wish to book in for this year’s Drennan Knockout Cup.
The event, which many regard as being among the most prestigious on the calendar, sees anglers compete over five rounds in a knockout competition, which takes place on commercial fisheries, canals and running water.
Round one this year is on the 20th May at the prolific Tunnel Barn Farm Fishery near Warwick.

0n Sunday 20th September 132 anglers (22 teams of 6) lined the banks of the River Thames between Lechlade and Rushey, to fish this iconic and long standing competition, winners are engraved on the trophy going back to 1950!
This year's team winners, Garbolino Blackmore vale Gold totalled 100 points, 7 clear of the next two teams, local experts Turners Tackle, Led by recent Thames festival winner Paul Passmore, and their second team, Garbolino Blackmore vale marine, both on 93, but Turners edging ahead on weight.
The winning team of Mike Berntsen, Rich Chave, Gary Etheridge, Simon Hebditch, Kev Bennet and Rob Randall, based their plan around catching the hoards of small fish that have featured in the river this season using whips for bleak up in the water and gudgeon on the bottom. although individual 3rd placed man Kev Bennet, added 3 late waggler caught chub for 10lb to join his 8lb of small fish caught in the first 4 hours.
Individual winner with 22lb 8oz was Drennan Oxford's Matt Herbert who was also amongst the Chub at the bottom of the Radcott section, landing 4 big ones to add to his earlier small fish net.
Kamasan team win Match Fishing Team Championship. Kamasan Starlets have won the Match Fishing Team Championship, finishing with a comfortable six point lead over second placed Daiwa Dorking. Drennan Barnsley occupied the last of the money places, after tying on points with Dorking, but losing out on section win countback. Kamasan Starlets captain, and England Co-Manager, Mark Downes explained: “Our team plan was to fish a really negative match – after three days of pressure, and with cold water coming into the system and a full moon on the Saturday, we weren’t expecting sport to be prolific.

Second Evesham Championship victory for Welsh ace. Andrew ‘Spud’ Murphy has won the Evesham Championship, for the second time in four years. Drawn on peg 44, Spud caught a double figure barbel on chopped worm , plus some smaller roach and chublets on a combination of waggler and maggot and bloodworm tactics. Daiwa sales rep and top match angler, Martin Greene, is heading North to the firm's UK head office in Scotland to take up the prestigious role of Commercial Manager for Daiwa Sports UK. Martin added: "I have had a great 10 years on the road and must thank my retailers for the support and input they have given me in this time. I have learned some valuable skills and experiences during this period and hopefully take these into my new role as Commercial Manager. A few people have commented that my match fishing will suffer due to relocation, but it was an opportunity I could not refuse! I still plan to take part in a few bigger events in the future and hopefully this will keep me busy on that front, plus I will be based nearer to Ireland so maybe I might be paying a few visits on the festival scene over there!"I will miss my time in team fishing which is what I really enjoyed.
