Four section wins and a third for Drennan Team England. Drennan Team England have recorded one of the most convincing first day results in World Championship history, taking just seven points on the first day of this years competition in Poland on the Żerański Channel in Warsaw, Poland. Will Raison, Alan Scotthorne, Sean Ashby and Steve Hemingray have all won their sections - with Des Shipp finishing in third place. Although the final points tallies are yet to be confirmed, it is thought that this will give England a very convincing lead over their rivals.

Lee Edwards signs exciting new bait deal. Welsh international and Daiwa Dorking ace Lee Edwards has signed a new bait deal with Angling Bait Club (ABC). The deal will still see Preston Innovations sponsor Lee for tackle, but ABC will now supply all the bait, as opposed to his old sponsor, Sonubaits. ABC boss Denzel Thorpe explained: "I am a Welshman, and a very patriotic one too – and with Lee being from Caerphilly, I relished the opportunity to give my fellow countryman the chance of lifetime.

Local expert predicts difficult Winter League Final. "I have looked through the tide tables for the year, and from what I can see, the Angling Trust has chosen the most difficult tide of the year for this year's Winter League Final. "These were the stark words of River Trent match organiser, and Dynamite and Shimano-backed ace, Alan Henry in the run-up to this year's Winter League Final on the Tidal River Trent. The match is taking place on the North and South Clifton, Laughterton and Besthorpe stretches of the river next Saturday, July 6th.

Stark warning from Angling Trust. Following complaints from anglers angered by the re-emergence of a website offering rod licence renewals which charges an additional £11 for ‘processing services’ the Angling Trust is warning anglers not to pay a penny more than they need and is encouraging everyone to use the completely free service provided by the Environment Agency and the Post Office. Broughton thinks a closed season review is unlikely. Experienced fisheries management consultant Dr Bruno Broughton has added his opinion to the ongoing close-season debate. An expert in his field, Bruno is familiar with most of the arguments for and against a coarse fish close season. He explained: “The 93-day closure on rivers is an approximation to cover the span of breeding times for most coarse fish in most years, from early spawners (such as pike) to late spawners (notably tench and carp).

Manager optimistic of team's chances. Joint England boss Mark Downes says his side are in with a chance on a challenging River Danube in Serbia, but conditions have been changeable after the river rose almost to the top of its banks last week. The prime time BBC current affairs show, ‘The One Show’ has highlighted one of angling’s biggest problems – the fish eating cormorants that are ravaging our inland fish stocks. Raison reflects on Fisho success. If one man's name has been on the lips of the Country’s match anglers over the last five days, it has been that of England International, and Daiwa and Old Ghost backed ace, Will Raison. On Sunday, Will put up what many have described to be the best display of angling that they have ever witnessed – winning the Fish ‘O’Mania International challenge individually, and helping Drennan Team England to victory. But Will, and team mate Alan Scotthorne didn’t have it all their own way – with well over half of the match gone, England were lying fifth – almost 20 kilos behind the eventual runners up, Scotland.

Jan Porter's joy at public goodwill. The last twelve months have been particularly difficult for angling legend, Jan Porter. He has been facing a lengthy battle with cancer, but it seemed he was winning. On August 24th, he posted on Facebook how he was pleased to learn that his treatment for a secondary tumour on his liver had been going well.
