Former Mega Match This finalist and new Maver man on the block, Ben Sharp, has qualified for next year’s Middy Extreme Final from his latest outing at Lake View in Leicestershire. Read his full match report below:
“Today I’ve had a nice local trip to Lake View Fishery to try and qualify for the middy extreme winter series final. And to have my first outing with my new Maver Darkside 3 pole”
“Peg 21 on Serpent pool was to be my home for the day and I must say I really didn’t fancy the peg at all! It was evident from the off that peg 2 was solid with fish and was likely to win, on the plus side of that…. Andy Searl who had drawn peg 2 had already qualified”.
The latest government statistics show that angling participation has increased over the last 12 months as anglers head out to the banks more often.
The Active People Survey is carried out by Sport England to establish how many people are participating in sport. The survey, looks at all sports, including angling, as part of the government drive to keep people engaged in sporting activity. 164,500 anglers were canvassed as part of the regular study to find out how often people go fishing and what is their background.
Take An Adventure!
Match Fishing takes a look at Colmic’s latest range of feeder rods, designed to handle even the most brutal workouts…When it comes to long-range casting on open lakes or using heavy feeders on rivers such as the tidal Trent, specific gear up for the job is a must. This is where the Colmic Scrape Next Adventure rods come into play. The 90g 13ft, 120g 13ft and 120g 13ft 8in models are serious pieces of kit. These three rods are made to deal with the rigours of heavy feeder work on fast-flowing rivers, fishing and long-range casting, and the strain put on them within these disciplines of the sport.
Blink And You’ll Miss It!
Match Fishing magazine’s chief sub editor David Haynes recounts a tale of loss, and rejoices at the return of a faithful friend.
After doing this fishing stuff for a good many years you think you pretty much know what to do and what not to do, until something comes along and catches you out… In a match at the famous Glebe fishery recently I should have been prepared for the ferocity of some of the carp bites – I’ve seen the tip go round here a few times before, and I know that when they want the bait they take it… and how! I was fishing a bomb and pellet at a gentle lob’s distance, and having cast out and set the rod in the rest I turned round on my seatbox to reach something behind me. I wasn’t clipped up and the clutch on my Team Daiwa 3012D reel was set lightly, so I was a little confused by the splashy gurgling noise coming from where my rod had just been.
Spinning round, I saw it bounce into the lake and motor off away from me.
