27th May 2012
Number of pegs/anglers: 88

Report: After a spring that has felt more like the winter at times, the temperature soared for the final Round of this competitive 4 match canal series, and the weights followed suit with over 20lb needed to top the event and 14 anglers reaching double figures!

On top of the pile was Sensas Wiltshire angling’s Mark Lloyd who drew peg C9 on the bush at the Station section below Great Bedwyn, Mark weighed of 21lb 4oz of skimmers which he caught steadily throughout the 5 hours and also included a couple of bream around the 3lb mark which he tempted on the chopped worm against the bush at 14M

Also on the same section was second placed Mike Marsden of Pewsey who was on C1 near the car park. Mike had a nice net weighing 18lb exactly, he also caught skimmers but didn’t have the quality fish that the winner had.

On C8 and not far behind Mike was Browning Andover’s Gerry Blunt, Gerry also joined in the skimmer fest and weighed 17lb 10oz for 3rd but was cursing his luck as he lost a near 4lb fish at the net which could have given him top spot! , Gerry caught 56 skimmers and said afterwards that his float only went under for 3 of those fish! The rest coming from hold ups and lift bites! On the station section which held 11 pegs, 6lb 1oz was the lowest weight!

But the action wasn’t just confined to the Station , as the next 2 Anglers were at the Wharf and Wolfhall sections respectively. In 4th place from peg B22 was Swindon Talisman’s Dave Johnson who popped 15lb 11oz of skimmers on the scales, and at A9 at Wolfhall Tubertini Blue’s Jamie Makepiece caught 3 bream and 8 skimmers for 14lb 13oz on chopped worm.

Finally in 6th place was Garbolino Blackmore Vale Gold’s Richard Chave with 14lb 9oz from the prolific Station section, which comprised of 65 fish, around 30 of them skimmers caught on either red maggot or worm.

Going into the final round 3 teams were gunning for the top spot and the £840 that went with it, And It was the team in 3rd place at the start of the day that leapfrogged the rest to clinch it. Following on from their win in the previous round Garbolino Blackmore Vale Gold did it again with a consistent score of 32 points, but this time they tied with Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths who also had their second win of the series after topping the first round back in the middle of April. Oakwood Blue weren’t far behind on 31 points and this got them the final team payout (£220) behind Garbolino Blackhorse on 2nd and £640 and Garbolino Blackmore Vale Marine in 3rd pocketing £440.

Individually Gary Etheridge of Garbolino Blackmore vale Gold showed his consistency with 37 points over the 4 match series which was just 1 point ahead of a 3 other anglers on 36, Brett Cooper of Shakespeare Team Hansfords, Daniel Webb of Garbolino Blackhorse and Mick Denton of Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths.
