Marshall Bosses Barford

Shakespeare Superteam ace is top on Avon.
In the first-ever Barford Summer Festival, held recently on the Warwickshire Avon at Barford, near Warwick, the top honours went to Shakespeare team man Tony Marshall.

In a convincing display over the three days’ fishing, river ace Tony dropped only one section point, but still finished just one ahead of Sensas/WB Clarke angler Adrian Narbeth. In third place, another point behind, was Dave Smith, also Sensas/WB Clarke. The best finish from a Barford angler was organiser Colin Talbot, who finished in fourth place with 17 points, just ahead of Shakespeare’s Spig Pawlowski.

Conditions throughout the three days were bright, sunny and dry – not always the best for the shallow sections below Barford weir – but Tony won the first day with a 21-3-0 catch of chub and barbel from well downstream and also provided the best catch of the competition with a fantastic 51-9-0 of barbel on the final day, from a swim in the middle of the match length.

Mike Bedding won the second day with another good catch of 24-2-0, again from the downstream section, while in the slower, deeper sections above the weir the best catch of the week was Les Ashby’s 13-5-0 of bream. Backing weights throughout the event were very respectable, and most competitors enjoyed good fishing.

The festival was hailed a big success by the sell-out field, and will be held again next year. Dates are Monday, July 7th, Wednesday, July 9th and Friday, July 11th.
