Piling in a load of bait down the edge and enjoying a red-letter margin session – does it get much better in fishing? Well, if you’re going to do that you should think about investing in a pole made for the job, and at just £109.99 with a spare top kit included, this Nytro number might just tickle your pickle.

A few issues back I took the 6m version of this pole out for a spin at Meadowlands and, for the money, you just cannot fault it. Well, a few months on and here we are with the 8m version. If six metres just isn’t enough for you, but you still want a super-strong margin pole, then this new addition from Nytro might be what you’re looking for. At eight metres with the small dolly butt fitted it’ll get you far enough down the edge on a lot of places and, most importantly, a pole like this will keep the wear, tear and strain off your other pride and joy.

This thing is designed to be used and abused – you can throw it around and use it for catching those really big summer weights on both the short and margin lines. It’s designed with extra wall thickness for added strength, but is perfectly manageable at full length for a full session. Is it as stiff as your flagship £3,000 plus pole? Nope… but does it need to be? Nope. We’re talking about a £110 margin pole here that comes supplied with a spare top two kit.

The kits come ready-bushed and already fitted with roller side pullers. I mean, honestly, what more could you ask for?

There are also some new Power Edge Grey top kits available, as well as a Power Edge Grey Cupping Kit with two cups. The kits also come ready-bushed and ready-fitted with roller side pullers just like the standard black coloured kits. The pole has a lovely, unique finish to the weave and it’s just a brilliant all-round margin hauler for those sessions when you know you’re going to catch big weights, or huge fish… or both!

Today I’ve laced one of the new Grey top kits up with an 18-20 grade hybrid elastic to cope with big fish. It’s absolutely brilliant that the kits come ready-bushed and the roller side pullers are perfect for the job too, allowing you to keep everything ultra-smooth, which helps to alleviate wear on your elastics.

I’m fishing a margin swim to my right at full length and I have to say the pole is great. It’s perfectly fishable at this length all day and, let’s not forget, if you don’t need to fish any further than eight metres this could very easily be your only pole! The spare Grey top kits are superbly priced at just £29.99 each and the Cupping Kit (with two cups) comes in at the same price, £29.99.

It’s nice and slim and is surprisingly stiff and responsive. I had nothing but good things to say about its shorter 6m counterpart and this is no different. It’s ultra-robust and handles big fish with ease. With the right rigs and elastics you’ll be able to land pretty much anything you hook – this pole is designed not to let you down. I’m fishing 0.22mm straight through today to test this pole because that’s what I’d be using for this style of fishing at this time of the year. It’s a beast – a big-fish tamer – and if you’re looking for a margin pole at a super-competitive price this could be the one for you. It even has joint aligners and comes supplied in a pole bag, too.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing this pole today and, for me, you just can’t fault it for the money. You can add several extra top kits without breaking the bank, to give you a versatile, ultra-strong short pole that’s a joy to fish with.
