The first Canal match usually proves popular but this year a bumper turnout of 32 anglers fished Round Five of the Victoria Products League at the Lime Kilns. Nobody was expecting a great day’s fishing with bright sunshine, clear skies and a cold wind forecast and talk at the draw was that the pegs along the wall would be the place to avoid.  The fishing went as expected with eleven anglers failing to catch a fish and the majority having just one bonus fish it was poor throughout.   Winner on the day was Darren Lawrence; his catch of 5kg 620g from peg 25 was enough to take the £95 1st prize and 10 league points.  He caught a bream at mid depth on the waggler an hour into the match then towards the end landed a Tench by casting a straight lead towards the far bank.    Duncan Hill was the only other angler to manage a second bonus fish for a total weight of 4k 50g which was enough for 2nd place and the £60 prize. Drawn on peg 11 he alternated between a feeder and the waggle! r to catch a few small roach along with two Tench.  Third place with one decent bream from peg 30 with a total weight of 2kg 950g was Zac Newton, he caught the 6lb fish an hour into the competition on a feeder fished 3/4 of the way across.  Fourth on the day was Gary Toms, from peg 2 on the wall he used the waggler to catch two small Tench with a few perch and roach.  There were four section winners: Section A: (Default) Eddie Evans 1k 180g; Section B: (Default) Keith Carpenter 1k270g; Section C Mark Whetnall 1k380g; Section D: (Double Default) Dave Walton 1k 940g
