Weston Pools Spring League

Tight match sees four anglers record perfect section score.
Robbie Griffiths took the scalps at the first of a four-match open series at the fabulous Shropshire-based fishery Weston Pools. Both Canal and Stretton Lake were in the draw bag for this initial round, with the anglers rotating around the complex through the series to mix the sections and ensure a fair competition.

The event – sponsored by Tri-Cast – kicked off with strong winds and rain after a warm Saturday. Shallow long-pole tactics seemed to be favourite. Robbie fished long pole with maggot and took a steady run of carp, F1s, barbel and tench to secure a section-one point and super pools over all win. Fishing Peg 48 on Canal Pool, the Matrix Total Angling rod made the most of the end peg, beating the lake second by nearly 40lb.

Next best Ian Hughes of Drennan took the spoils on Stretton, opening his league challenge with a long-pole shallow caster approach finding better F1s and carp for a convincing section win.

Already a tight start with four anglers on a perfect one league point, only the weight difference to separate them, for round two, in three weeks time, consistency will be the key to secure the fabulous Tri-Cast prizes on offer. Full results and league table can be viewed on the Weston Pools Facebook page.
