Wilson Takes The Win

Evesham Festival Qualifying Match Report
The River Avon was on top form for this Wednesday's Evesham Championship qualifier, providing very consistent sport right through the match length, as chub, perch and quality roach fed in numbers. The lowest section winning weight was 6-13-0, and one unlucky angler didn’t make the frame with a whopping 9-3-0!

Top dog on the night was in form Worcester rod, James Wilson. James, who has already made headlines this year by qualifying for the £50,000+ Maver Match This Final, has now won a place in both the Evesham and Wychavon Finals to boot.

The Alan’s Tackle-backed talent fished worm and maggot at seven metres, catching several small perch, before switching to a line fed with caster and groundbait at 16 metres, fooling chublets and quality roach for a 12lb winning total.

Runner-up was Welsh legend, Clive Branson, who managed a 10-5-0 net of chub and chublets from Peg 52. Clive caught mostly on waggler and maggot. Evesham regular, Trevor Chalk took third spot from Peg 8, catching a net of quality roach on hempseed.

There are still a couple of team places remaining for the qualifying matches for the Match Fishing Team Championship, taking place on Sunday, July 6th and Sunday, July 20th.  For the first time ever, both these events offer THREE teams of five the chance to qualify for one of Match Fishing’s most prestigious team events.
