The Best… Bar Absolutely None! Editor Alex Bones checks out MAP’s latest flagship pole – the hotly anticipated 901!Here at Match Fishing we get new tackle to test on a weekly basis. Sure, we tip most of it as good, as a product to look out for, or better than its predecessor but we wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. When it comes to standout products, though, it can sometimes become difficult to express just how good they are. Well, be in no doubt that in my opinion this is THE best commercially available pole ever launched, bar absolutely none!I’d be happy to fish with any manufacturer’s flagship pole – they’re all very, very good – but the 901 is special – it’s such a carefully thought out product that suits my fishing perfectly.

These hooklengths have been designed with the Method and pellet feeder in mind and are just 4in in length to suit. Tied on quality N-Gauge line with the awesome MWG hooks, these hooklengths come in three variants – bait-band rigs, Speed Stop rigs and Bayonet rigs – allowing various baits to be used. Many anglers believe ready-tied hooklengths are inferior but that is simply not the case with these superb hooklengths. RRP: £2.

Tom Scholey on a great weeks fishing, and a lesson learned the hard way. The highlight of my angling year is always the three or four White Acres Festivals that I fish. In my mind, they are without doubt the most fiercely competitive events in the match fishing calendar, attracting the sports very best names, and with each one being contested over five days, these are not events that you can win by just getting lucky. I suppose my best result in Cornwall was a win in the Preston Innovations Parkdean Pairs Festival back in June with Matt Godfrey – a great week, but at a little under a third of the size of the spring and autumn festivals, hardly as prestigious.

Massive carp on the feed. It is thought that Andy Leathers has taken an early lead in the 2013 Parkdean Masters Final, after banking three carp, all believed to be approaching double figures. Ed Warren on peg 23 is also said to be in a strong position, with two good carp in the net. White Acres Fishery manager, Clint Elliott said: “As I walked along the bank this morning, it was obvious that there were a lot of fish moving in between pegs 16 and 23, where the wind has been blowing quite strongly for the last few days.
