The Annual NSWCARC “Champs $1000 winner take all” match was held in Sydney recently here is the match report...

The Australian weather once again sent the 16 anglers in this year’s final a chilly reminder that winter had not left just yet despite the temps being well up all the previous week to the match. A cold front with a drop of over 10 degrees in temperature moved in on the Friday leaving most of the competitors wondering if the carp will feed at all. With both venues being used having a big head of wild goldfish and small carp and some of the top anglers from all over Australia fishing the two day event, there was still plenty of bites for most and the final results couldn’t have been much tighter.

Day 1 section winners were as follows
Club Lake:
Terry Ollerenshaw (VIC) 14.24 kg (pole/corn)
Alan Woods (VIC) 11.52 kg (feeder/maggot)
Caddis Creek:
Ivan Mitchell (NSW) 16.20 kg (pole/bread)
Paul Joyce (QLD) 19.02 kg (pole/chopped worm)

Day two saw the weather warm up but, once again it was small carp and goldfish making up most of the weights on both venues. A few sore heads from the Saturday night at the pub may not have helped some of the anglers connect with all the finicky bites today!

Mark Turner (VIC) 12.40 kg (pole/corn)
Ivan Mitchell (NSW) 7.35 kg (pole/bread)
Caddis creek:
Alan Woods (VIC) 16.52 kg (pole/maggot)
Terry Olerenshaw (VIC) 14.44 kg (pole/corn)

With the top 3 anglers all on section wins it was down to weight difference to decide this year’s winner and even then it was only separated by grams. Last year’s second place angler Alan Woods will have to wait another year to try and win this match. Terry Ollerenshaw fished a blinder over the 2 days and beat Alan by just over 500 grams to take the cup and $1000 for 2012. Well done Terry.
