In A section, Des Shipp is thought to be among the leaders with six small roach, and a bonus 12oz skimmer, which should give him around 550g. Ashby makes the RiverFest Final. There are just three qualifying matches remaining before the RiverFest roadshow draws to a halt. The field already boasts some top-class river rods, including Terry Moroz, Tony Marshall, Rob Wootton, Jamie Robbins, Andrew Murphy, Scott Geens, Matt Derry, Andy Powers and Paul Glenfield. One of the latest qualifiers was former World Champion Sean Ashby, who qualified on the River Trent at Burton upon Trent last weekend.

Scotthorne leads section, but Shipp struggles. Drennan Team England have got off to a mixed start on the second day of the 2013 World Championship in Poland. Five Times World Champion Alan Scotthorne is leading from the front, winning his section with half an hour of the match gone. Although the going is tough in his section, Alan has taken more than a dozen fish, and is comfortably ahead of second place.

A new competition for disabled anglers launched in the East Midlands A brand new competition for disabled anglers is being launched in the East Midlands. The inaugural East Midlands Disabled Angling Championships will be taking place on Thursday 22nd September at Rycroft Fishery, Derbyshire (DE74 2RE) on Moat Lake. The competition has been established in partnership with the Angling Trust to create more opportunities for disabled anglers to fish in competitions. The match will form part of an on going calendar of local matches for disabled anglers taking place at accessible fisheries.

Venue owner, Gary Jubb dons wetsuit to break the ice!Top match angler, and former England International, Gary Jubb has built up a fearsome reputation on the bank – but it is more his actions in the water that have been creating a stir over the last few days. He is employed as manager at Barnburgh Lakes near Doncaster, and was keen that ice shouldn’t stop play for anglers brave enough to journey to his fishery in the latest bout of bad weather. “I have had training as a diver, and am lucky enough to own all the equipment – including a full thermal wetsuit – so even though the water was freezing I was lovely and warm. It is a great way to break the ice when it is thick, as you can chip away at it with a hammer if necessary.

The home nation is leading the race, with 15 points - including three individual section winners. England boast no section winners, but are lying second on 16 points, two points clear of third placed Hungary.

Death Of A Trent Star. Midland based angling legend, Don Slaymaker has passed away after a battle with cancer. Don was widely regarded as being one of the best river anglers of his generation, and also had scores of commercial victories to his name. Originally hailing from Stoke, Don moved to Nottingham as a young man, cutting his teeth on the ultra competitive River Trent circuit of the 70s and 80s.

Five former champions in Parkdean final. The line up is complete for this years Parkdean Masters Final, which gets underway at 12pm. The competition, hosted annually on Jenny's Lake at White Acres Fishery near Newquay, carries a £25,000 winner takes all bounty, and is widely regarded as match angling's most prestigious prize. Fancied pegs include peg 5, where two times former champion, Des Shipp has drawn, and peg 16 where Norfolk ace Andy Leathers is set to fish.

Angling Trust to publish competitions expenditure. The Angling Trust has today announced that it will publish a full breakdown of its income and expenditure for all the matches that it runs. The announcement comes on the back of an ‘Agent X’ article in Match Fishing magazine, and a thread on the Angling Answers forum, which has seen numerous anglers question where the ‘administration’ money that taken out of the pot actually goes. Trust Member, and DHP Digital News Editor Tom Scholey commented: “I am delighted that the Trust have finally decided to co operate and publish how their administration fees are used.

New format teams of four league already proving popular. There is less than two weeks to go before the popular Sensas Teams Of Four league gets underway at Hayfield Lakes near Doncaster. Headed up by match organisers Lee Kerry and Tom Scholey, the league is to undergo a number of changes this year, with the aim of encouraging more people to get involved. With eight teams already booked on the league, the new format looks to be proving popular.

Matrix ace takes on top Midland venue. One of the country's top anglers, Grant Albutt, has taken on prolific Midlands water, Shatterford Lakes.
