Jan Porter to make match fishing comeback. Legendary angler Jan Porter is to make a return to match fishing after hearing about the new Riverfest contest run by former Match Fishing editor Dave Harrell. Jan, who built up a fearsome match fishing reputation as ‘The Man In Red’ in the 1980s before turning to specimen fishing, explained: “When I quit match fishing, I said that I would never take part in the sport again. For so many years I had been so 'full-on' with the sport; I knew that the only way I could break away from it was to be 'full-off'.

Conditions on the day were mixed with temperatures overnight dropping as low as 3°C coupled with period of bright warm sunshine later in the afternoon. Fishing on the day was extremely difficult with many anglers catching just odd fish. That said, however, despite the weights being relatively low, it was an incredibly close match which, going into the final hour, anyone could have won.
