Due to the overwhelming response from the first under 12s match fishing competition held in April 2011 at Redbridge Lakes; Gordon Bullock, owner and Managing Director of the Essex based match fishing venue decided it was time to do it all over again! On Wednesday 27th July 2011, Redbridge Lakes blew the whistle to start the second under 12s match fishing competition. Once again, Redbridge Lakes was overrun with eager kids, both boys and girls, ready to go into battle to win the prestigious title of “Under 12s Champion”. Our previous winner, Louis Bell was at the tournament to make a valiant attempt to retain his crown; however, he clearly had some stiff competition as Redbridge Lakes was awash with would be Kings and Queens of the under 12s crown. Each child was given a 15 minutes fishing session with one of our on-site expert anglers.

Hugely successful Inaugural competition sees over 200 anglers hit the bank from across the UK. One of the biggest matches of the year has proved a huge success when 210 anglers lined 26km of Yorkshire’s river Hull for the River Hull Angling Championship. Run as a fish survey match to help the East Yorkshire Chalk Rivers trust and the Environment Agency, the huge event saw anglers from across the country come to compete. In the end though it was local knowledge that won the day, with Hull angler Mick Anderson bagging 3.

Bream and tench throw up a surprise win as anglers take some good weights. The first week in October saw 36 Anglers compete in Ripon Piscatorial Associations Inaugural River Ure Festival Trophy. The sections used ran from above the city’s North Bridge down to Hewick Bridge near the racecourse, with the pegs cherry picked from the clubs available 65 in the stream sections which ensured a fair festival was in prospect. A busy year of planning which involved the river being totally re-pegged and lots of tree clearance, pegs were made more accessible so the sections to be used were suitable for such an event.

Match/Event Name:* River Wye Team Championships Date (dd/mm/yyyy):* 26/02/2017 Location of Match:* River Wye, Hereford Number of Pegs/Anglers:* 60 Report: Wye Team Championships 26-02-2017 It was touch and go as to whether this years event would take place due to high water levels, but the decision was made to run the match with a slight change to pegging. 10 teams of six anglers fished across the Belmont, Bartonsham and Eign sections. Barbel were expected to be the dominant species, but with the rising water, and lots of debris clogging up the river, they didn't show as well as expected. Belmont section did however produce plenty of dace and roach bites for most.

Pollard takes the win in first Riverfest of the year. The very first qualifier for the Angling Trust Riverfest competition took place this weekend on the River Yare. The weather had changed from very hot and sunny to damp and overcast with a chilly easterly wind. With excellent roach bags coming out during practice off the match length during the week most anglers were expecting the roach to dominate proceedings, however with the overcast conditions and a full ebb tide throughout the match the, up until now rather elusive bream and skimmers were likely to have a go.

In a frame dominated by bloodworm and joker weights, sticking to his trusted hemp attack proved key for Tony Marshall as he romped to victory with an 8-15-0 roach net. Shakespeare Qualifier: Hampton Ferry, Evesham | August 14 | 74 FishedDrawn on peg 36, Tony had started his match on bloodworm and joker at 13 metres, taking a few small fish while priming his hemp line a section past where he fed his bloodworm. Then, with two hours of the match to go, Tony slipped a grain of hemp on a light, 4x10 strung out rig, and took the first of a succession of quality redfins. The key move for Tony came just half-an-hour from the end however, when he pushed past his feed to 16 metres and took two 14oz specimens to clench him victory.

Poor weights blamed on bad river conditions, but results were still close. A worrying red tinge has returned to haunt the Severn once again which was thought to be part of the blame for the poor results last year and once again the weights were low. Top spot on the day went to Shrewsbury rod Guy Jones, drawn on county ground peg 25 he adopted a stickfloat approach two rods out, feeding and fishing bronze maggot on the hook he had two large perch and some bits for a 6-9-0 winning weight. Five pegs above the winner on spinny peg 20 was Total Angling’s Rob Brennan who decided on a groundbait and pole to hand attack which resulted in one good chub and some small dace to put 6-3-0 on the scales for second overall.
