SCAC Winterleague Round 3 results Location of match: Sydney, Australia Date of match: 5/8/12 Number of pegs/anglers: 16 Report: The third and final round of the NSW SCAC winter league saw 15 anglers turn up on Caddis Creek in Sydney. Despite some cold clear nights all week and a light frost the night before the match, the consistent venue still produced plenty of bites for most with small carp and goldfish making up most of the weights. It was a close match again with only a few hundred grams separating the top 3. After a slow first hour and a half on the feeder a switch to the pole at 14.

Valley School from Worksop won the Angling Trust Daiwa Schools National Championship title for the fourth consecutive year running with a total of 107 points in the team classification. The team consisted of; Liam Ainsworth, Lewis Robinson, Robbie Moore, Dean Northage and Oliver Hipkiss. This is an incredible achievement for Valley to retain the gold medal for the last four years. In silver medal position was Carlton Community College from Barnsley with 89 points.

Barby Banks evening series, 4th July Match Fishing's Joe Carass took the top prize for the second week running despite torrential rain that prevented the anglers from seeing their floats! Joe caught 15 small carp tight across on pellets before catching 16 down the edge on paste over groundbait for a 84lb 6oz total. In second place was Guru-backed Mark Griffiths with 67lb, Mark took his net of small carp on dead maggots and worms over groundbait fished both tight across and down the edge. The matches are on every Wednesday evening and cost just £12 to enter with just £3 taken out for peg fees. Draw at 5.

Round 4 of the Sensas Commercial House League on the Bristol Avon. With bright sun and clear water the river fished very up and down. Many people only had ounces but there were still ten double figure weights. Tim Ford drew on the style at Jack Whites, which often produces weights of dace up to 20lb.

Bristol Avon shows good form as the Preston Innovations Thatchers take full advantage. Sensas Commercial House LeagueRound 2Bristol Avon from Swinford to Jack Whites 54 pegsSunny with showers was the order of the day as anglers settled into the second round of the Sensas Commercial House League on the Bristol Avon. And with a bit more flow on the river than in the previous round some good sport was on offer, with 17 of the anglers posting double figure weights. It was Liam Braddell who took the honours though, winning the match fromnear the split willows in the cornfield at Swinford.

Tough going on the third round of the Sensas Commercial House League. With the river still being very clear and slow flowing most anglers really struggled for bites with only 7 weights over 5 lbs. There were even blanks recorded. Dave Haines won the match for BTM services from peg 77.

The final round of the Sensas CHL played out on a cold Kennet & Avon Canal. Kennet & Avon Canal from The George to Dundas (54 pegs) After the mild weather in the week, the cold snap made the fishing quite hard in general with most of the bigger weights including bonus fish. Nathan Hawke won the match with 7 lbs 8 ozs. He was drawn on an end peg between ferry lane bridge and the old lock.

Bristol Avon, Swinford to the Swing Bridge, 60 pegsThe river had dropped a fair bit from midweek but was still pushing through with a lot of colour. Odd bream and chub were caught throughout the match giving decent weights as 18 double figure catches were recorded. Nigel Evans of Preston Innovations Thatchers B won the match from the new fence area, peg 64. He lightly balled in groundbait down the middle at the start and then fished a feeder over the top of this.

The Commercial House seasonal competition fished on the Kennet and Avon canal. The first really hard frost greeted the anglers who turned out for this Christmas match. Conditions were bright and clear making some areas fish very hard. It was a tight match with only four and a half ounces separating the top three anglers.

Trial League Off To Blazing Start. The first round of the Sensas River/Canal league got off to a cracking start, with plenty of fish being caught on both the River Soar, and the Loughbrough Canal. This years event is being run as a trial, meaning teams are welcome to join at any time, as there is no cash prizes being paid out to winning teams. Three anglers fish on each of the two venues, with the cumulative result being decided on section points.

Roach on hemp the winning tactic for weekend's match. Sunday July 22ndShakespeare Championship QualifierEvesham Town and Ferry Waters59 Fished. With the water having cleared slightly from the previous days qualifier, many anglers decided to target the venues roach stocks. Ian Shepherd was one such rod, and his move paid off in style as he banked 70 good sized roach on hempseed.

Roger Clutton tops midweek qualifier. Maver Milton Keynes rod Roger Clutton has continued his good run of form – and has now qualified for both the Shakespeare and the Wychavon Finals in just three visits to the river!On a hot but overcast day Roger attacked his peg with groundbait, catching four good bream on the pole with a running-through rig from Peg 64 above the Ferry. In second place was RAF rod Michael Dcaccia. Michael took a bream and several perch and eels on long-pole tactics, fishing with a flat float and feeding chopped worm and caster through a baitdropper.

Local aces take comfortable qualifier victory. Twelve teams of five booked on the first of this season’s team qualifying matches for the Match Fishing Team Championship Final. In a break from past tradition, this year not one but three teams from each of the qualifying matches progress through to join the eight invited teams in the final. Finishing top on the day were local experts Shakespeare, who fielded a squad made up of Spig Pawlowski, Tony Bench, Steve Williams, Brian Rigby and Tony Davis.
